Introduction to the course

A transformative 10-week journey integrating Quran, Sunnah, and evidence-based psychology to address depression’s emotional, physical, mental, social, and spiritual roots. Participants will discover how to re-train thought patterns, nourish body and brain, build strong social support, and ground themselves in faith to reclaim inner peace and purpose.

Modules covered:

  1. Understanding Depression: Recognize signs, symptoms, and myths; map personal stressors.
  2. Emotional Healing: Break negative patterns; practice deep breathing and gratitude.
  3. Physical Wellness: Optimize sleep, nutrition, hydration, and exercise.
  4. Physical Wellness: Identify automatic negative thoughts and learn to reframe.
  5. Mental Wellness: Build positive self-talk and more.
  6. Mental Wellness: Understand dopamine, serotonin, and how habits shift brain chemistry.
  7. Social Support: Strengthen family/community bonds, overcome stigma.
  8. Spiritual Lifelines: Trust in Allah, belief system reset, purpose of life.
  9. Spiritual Lifelines: Tests & trials, patience, and hope through Qur’anic guidance.
  10. Integration & Moving Forward: Consolidate emotional, physical, mental, social, and spiritual tools.

Certification Criteria:

Submission of a 1000-word reflective essay within one week after course completion.

Instructor

Bela Khan

is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the International Open University, known for integrating Islamic principles with psychological approaches. Having extensively studied the Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh from various schools, she offers a unique approach to psychology through the divine lens of Islam, making it meaningful and relatable to Muslims worldwide. She is also serving as the Clinical Director of Solace, an Islamic mental health service. Her Islamically Integrated Life Coaching (IILC) course empowers individuals to help others overcome daily life challenges and lead more purposeful lives. Graduates of this course are working globally, inspiring meaningful change in their communities.
