Psychology of Love – Level 1

A Course with Bela Khan
(Clinical Director of Solace)

Introduction to the Course:

Ever “fallen” in love and ended up feeling confused or disappointed? In a world where love is often reduced to fleeting emotions, romantic idealism, or conditional attachment, many individuals struggle to make sense of their experiences of love. As expectations meet reality, emotional pain within relationships can become overwhelming.

The
Psychology of Love is a 10-week reflective course conducted by Bela Khan, designed to heal modern misconceptions of love by reconnecting it to its deeper spiritual roots.

This course explores love through an integrated framework that draws on the Quran, the Sunnah, the wisdom of pious predecessors, and insights from modern psychology. Rather than focusing on romantic or Hollywoodish narratives, the course approaches love as a human capacity and spiritual state. It further frames love as a moral responsibility and emotional skill that can be cultivated.

We will examine how love operates across different domains. Love of Allah, self, others, relationships, and life. We will also see how distorted understandings of love can contribute to emotional distress, insecure attachment (and what attachment is anyway), resentment, and spiritual disconnection. The course also addresses how contemporary culture, trauma, and unmet emotional needs shape unhealthy expectations of love.

What Will You Learn:

· Conceptualise love in Islam (Qur’an, Sunnah, and pious predecessors).
· Differentiate between healthy and unhealthy forms of love.
· Understand love as an act of consciousness.
· Reframe emotional pain and disappointment through an Islamic lens.
· Decode questions such as “Why did he leave?” or “Why did she leave?”
· Develop emotional maturity in relationships.
· Reconnect love with meaning and purpose in life.
· And much more!
